James Carder joins CounterShadow as advisor

CounterShadow has added James Carder as its first advisor. James is Chief Information & Security Officer at Benevity and has spent more than 25 years in enterprise security and consulting. He worked for years alongside founder and CEO Jonathan Zulberg at LogRhythm.

"James has run security programs that most CISOs only read case studies about," said Jonathan Zulberg. "I worked with him for years at LogRhythm, and having him join CounterShadow after all that time working together is genuinely exciting for me. The synergies are obvious the moment you look at what we're building."

Security leadership and product advisory

Before Benevity, James was CSO and VP of LogRhythm Labs, and earlier Director of Security Informatics at Mayo Clinic, where he ran security programs across corporate and government environments.

At CounterShadow, James will support the company's Office of the CISO work and advise on product. He has sat on the buyer's side of the table for years, and that perspective shapes how the platform gets built: what a security leader actually needs from an autonomous SOC, and what gets in the way.

"I've watched a lot of vendors promise to fix the SOC. CounterShadow is the first one where I look at the approach and think, this is the future," said James Carder. "The work is properly innovative, and it's aimed at the real problem: teams drowning in alerts with no way to keep up. That's the challenge I've lived with my whole career, and it's why I wanted in."

A familiar face, a new problem

Zulberg and Carder overlapped at LogRhythm for years. That shared history means the advisory relationship starts with trust already in place, and with a common understanding of what worked in the last generation of security platforms and what didn't.
