Phil Villella joins CounterShadow as advisor
CounterShadow has brought on Phil Villella as an advisor. Phil co-founded LogRhythm and was its Chief Scientist for over 21 years, and he worked alongside CounterShadow founder and CEO Jonathan Zulberg for much of that time. He joins James Carder, who came on board as the company's first advisor in December.
"I spent years working with Phil at LogRhythm, and I know exactly what he brings," said Jonathan Zulberg. "He built the science behind one of the defining SIEM platforms. Having him involved in CounterShadow, after all those years working together, is genuinely exciting for me. The synergies are obvious the moment you look at what we're building."
AI and ML research
Phil is a physicist by training, with a PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder, and his career spans physics research, software development, and security analytics.
At CounterShadow, he will work with the team on AI and ML research and on improving the platform itself: the models, the analytics, and how the system reasons about threats.
"CounterShadow is doing the kind of work I got into security analytics to do," said Phil Villella. "The team is building something genuinely new, and they're solving problems that have been sitting unsolved in security operations for a long time. When I look at where the industry is heading, this is the future. I'm glad to be part of it."
The LogRhythm connection deepens
With Phil and James both on board, CounterShadow's advisors now cover the two sides of the company's work: the science under the platform, and how it lands with the security leaders who run SOCs day to day. And both relationships were built over years at LogRhythm, so there's no ramp-up needed. The conversations pick up where they left off.
Phil is now listed on the About page.
